Hero of the Mexican Revolution (1879 to 1919. Land and Liberty was his slogan.. From humble beginnings he rose to command the main revolutionary forces in Morelos, Southern Mexico. As a consequence of the revolution, peasants recovered their lands which had been expropriated by the sugar cane producing haciendas. He was assassinated in 1919.
